Guide Dogs Victoria Employment Service
Support finding and preparing for employment with vision loss.
Guide Dogs Victoria’s Employment Service is delivered in conjunction with CVGT Employment Victoria to connect people living with low vision or blindness to employers. The Employment Service supports Clients through the entire application process, from identifying the Assistive Technology and workplace accommodations which can support you best, to crafting your resume, interviewing for positions, and adjusting to your new workplace.

How it works
Meet with a Guide Dogs Victoria worker
In an initial meeting with a Guide Dogs Victoria worker, you’ll work with them to understand the roles your experience, personal strengths, and interests suit best. They will also work with you to determine the vision aids, mobility training and workplace accommodations which are most appropriate for your level of vision and target job.
Job hunt with CVGT
After identifying your ideal role, you’ll work closely with a member of the CVGT Employment team throughout the application process. They’ll support you in tailoring your resume to the job you want and crafting a cover letter which complements it, as well as in preparing for interviews. In consultation with Guide Dogs Victoria, they will also advise you on potential strategies for when and how to disclose your vision loss to employers and encourage potential employers to understand the benefits of employing a worker living with low vision or blindness.
Prepare for your new job
Once you have secured your new job, Guide Dogs Victoria will support you and your employer in preparing for you to start. By connecting you with Assistive Technology, Orientation and Mobility, and Occupational Therapy services, you’ll develop skills in travelling to and from work, navigating your workplace, and using vision aids and technology at work. Guide Dogs Victoria will support your employer in making any appropriate workplace accommodations ahead of you starting.
